Open Window
Sometimes all you need
is an open window
not a doorway, no
but an opening just the same
to invite in a fresh breeze
or a curious-looking insect
to fill you with awe
and bend your perspective
A gentle reminder
that you don’t have to go far
for a touch of inspiration
Back home I wouldn’t dare let the heat in
An open door in Florida
usually ends in
mosquitos, frizz, a scold from dad
So you can imagine
why closed windows posed no debate
But here
in this faraway land
the windows call out
with their uncomplicated design
for a hand
or a heart
to open them
to let the world in
to make you wonder
and believe in change
no matter how small
to take pleasure in the simple joys
and breathe out anew
Who says you need a door of opportunity
when a window of revelation
bestows two worlds at once
And keeps you on your toes
Not that you asked,
But a word of advice:
When you are feeling a tad stale
like forgotten bread
…open a window
your world might just open up
more than you ever thought
possible
